Regardless of our age, social status, and beliefs, we all can experience life adversities that can cause depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, or other mental and emotional difficulties that can be difficult to manage alone.

Past, recent and ongoing painful life experiences such as traumatic childhood experiences, domestic violence, intergenerational and racial trauma, accidents or other painful and disturbing events can cause psychological, emotional, spiritual, financial, physical and relational issues to you and your loved ones.

Feeling distressed, lacking motivation and energy, and constantly anxious? You may experience persistent sadness, constant worry, excessive feelings of guilt, shame, and anger. You might think that you have no place in the world, are not good enough, are a failure, are not worthy of love, do not deserve happiness, and feel the need for something to change. Having someone who can listen to you with empathy, sincerity, and without judgment can be a great support during these difficult times.

Working with a psychotherapist also means working with a professional with the training and experience to provide the information, treatment, tools and strategies to help you better understand your situation, overcome these challenges and make positive changes in your life.

About Me and My Areas of Expertise

Welcome to my website. I am Marie Jakalicia Guignard. I hold a master's degree in counselling psychology from Yorkville University in New Brunswick and specialize in EMDR therapy.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), and I am registered with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). I am also a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) and EMDR Canada.

As a psychotherapist who has been through different painful life situations, such as childhood trauma, and has worked hard to find my Inner Self and regain ownership of my life, I strongly believe that we all possess the inner resources and abilities needed to work towards the extraordinary goal of finding our Inner Selves and becoming who we want to be. I also want to acknowledge that the journey to healing from painful life experiences can be

challenging. However, working through painful life experiences is a worthy process.

I have worked with different therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), mindfulness and EMDR therapy. I chose to specialize in trauma-related issues as well as EMDR therapy because EMDR therapy has changed my practice and my own life experience. I work with adults and adolescents who are experiencing issues such as trauma, PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression, and other difficulties related to painful and disturbing life experiences.

I am the mother of two young adults and a preteen. I come from a diverse cultural community, and I attach great importance to respecting and valuing human diversity. I am from Haiti. I immigrated to Quebec when I was a teenager, and I have lived in different places in Canada. I speak English, French, and Creole fluently. I worked in many support and mutual aid areas in a collaborative and supportive spirit before redirecting my career into counselling psychology.

My work is grounded in a trauma-informed, person-centred and intercultural approach. I believe the beauty of life is in our differences and uniqueness. We can achieve a fulfilling life and contribute to our community and society by appreciating and respecting these differences and uniqueness.

"I am not what happened to me.

I am what I Choose to become."

                                    - Carl Jung
